Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I think it has been about 5 years I have been using it. I can't remember how I discovered it, but I was probably just looking for a new craft to do.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

The first book I bought was by Shohreh Dolkhani - Critters with Clay. Her step by step directions allowed me to successfully create my very first project. Then I was hooked! My other favorite artists are Shelly Comiskey, Stacey Morgan and Linda Welsh-Peterson.

What is your specialty?

I like making figures the best. I am also making different ornaments with glass balls and polymer clay - got the idea from Shohreh Dolkhani!

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

It is probably the colors the most. I get really excited when a new color is introduced. I also like being able to make realistic looking animals and figures.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

I won first place in the PCC challenge Dec. 2005. I also entered my Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles and Tails figures in the County Fair - Fine Arts/Sculpture and Pottery division and won a blue ribbon.

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I don't know about my expectations but I really hope to be able to try everything in the many Polymer Clay books I have. I also want to work more on my own designs.

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Just remember, if it is not coming out the way you want it, roll it in a ball and try again or, if you have multiple colors, run it through a pasta machine and slap it on a pen!

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

I like FIMO Soft the best because I am not a patient person and FIMO Soft is ready to go alot faster. It also holds impressions and marks alot better than Sculpey III.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I have been married for 15 years to a wonderful man and have three boys, 12, 10 and 8. I work part-time also so unfortunately, I don't have alot of spare time to work with clay. I'm a computer programmer and have never had any formal art training. However, I have always had some sort of craft hobby. I have stuck with clay the longest so I guess it's my favorite! A friend of mine at work and I try to do at least one craft show a year. We are often lamenting the fact that we have to waste time at work when we could be at home doing our crafts! The things I am most proud of that I have made are a chess set, a Nativity and a Noah and his animals set. I made these and donated them to our school fund raiser as silent auction items. I am still getting orders for more Nativities!
