Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I discovered polymer clay as a means to entertain my children over 18 years ago. I became hooked on clay and began selling my designs at local craft fairs.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

I'm basically self taught. When I started working in polymer clay it really wasn't as popular as it is today. Over the years I have been inspired by many artists all of whom I greatly admire and treasure their friendships.

What is your specialty?

I guess I like to be called the Queen of Cutsie. Everyone that looks at my character ornaments always makes the comment "Isn"t this cute?" I love to design Christmas ornaments, specialty plaques and miniatures.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

I find it facinating to create characters from a block of clay and watch as they come to life. Most of all I enjoy the challenge of learning new textures and techniques. Any thing is possible when designing with polymer clay!!

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

Jewlery Magnets and More, Handcraft Designs,
Play with Clay, Kappie Originals Ltd.,
Clay Creations, Clay Alphabet and Clay Hang-Ups, Designs Originals,
Clay Sand and Soap, California Country MCMXCI Yarn Kits

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

Not yet

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

You never know what the future holds .....Life is a mystery, but I do know one thing I'll still be designing in polymer clay!!

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

If you truly LOVE what your doing....Don't give up, keep trying!!!

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

I don't think that there is one in our area.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

I enjoy working with Cernit as it is a softer clay. I also use both Sculpey and Fimo.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I have two wonderful children 18 and 24, and a very supportive husband of 29 years. I am a CPD through HIA and enjoy teaching and demonstrating polymer clay techniques at local Craft Shops and Trade Shows. I will be teaching a beginners polymer clay class this spring at our local Adult Education Program.
