Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

My daughter designs, sews, dyes, and handpaints cotton clothing  and  wanted  hand made buttons that would be durable, colorful, and washable so I started using Promat to make buttons for her with excellent results.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

My daughter, Susan Meckel, that has the need for the buttons, and a friend, Dottie Pool, that does a lot of clay work and also has a book out called "TIN CAN ART".

What is your specialty?

My specialty is the clay buttons, but,  I also like to do pins, jewelry, and mixed media with the clay.  I love  oil painting and tole painting too.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

It does what I need it to do.  It is strong, durable, colorful, bonds well, and washable.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

No.

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

No, have not entered any competitions with clay. Have won awards for my oil painting.

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

Five years from now, I hope to be an expert on polymer clays and  be noted as a good artist.

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Don't be afraid to be creative, try new things, practice, and do lots of experimenting.

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

No.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

Promat, because it does what I need it to do...Mainly because of the strength, durability, and because it is washable.  Am interested in other clays that do the same.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I am a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and artist.  I have recently retired and hope to spend a lot of time doing my artwork.  I feel there is so much to learn and do that I definetly need another lifetime get it all done.  Basicly,  I am self taught but do take every opportunity to learn more.  My family is very supportive of my artwork.  They are all very creative and artistic too.  I would like to hear from others that do the things I do.
