City & State: Hurstbridge, Victoria, Australia
Type of Craft: Fairy Figurines

Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I used to make breaddough figurines but they got soft in a moist admosphere. Polymer clay was the ideal substitute.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

Didn't know other artists and didn't have internet.

What is your specialty?

Elfs and fairys with boobs and bellys and studs.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

Quick easy to bake in the oven. Not too breakable. Easy to sculpt with if it is not too old.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

Not yet.

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

Not yet.

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

To sell my fairys all over the world. To be rich and famous so I have more time to really create. More creation less production.

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Let the clay cool down in the oven. Overnight is good so you won't get cracks.

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

Not yet.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

Modelene

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

My name is Conny, I'm a Dutch girl now living in Australia. I'm a trained kindergarden teacher but when I came here I had to do an extra year's training to be able to teach. I fell pregnant so I decided to be a full time mum and sell craft at local markets. I went from bread dough dolls to stocking covered butterflies and dragons and fairywings but with the discovery of polymer clay I came back to my first love - human shapes. It worked very well with the fairys. Now I have 3 kids and a small ebay business. Still do a market now and then. Still try to improve and my fairy folk. At the moment I also make large dragons partialy made with polymer clay. I would like to have an exibition with my dragons. I'm looking for a way to advertise my fairys in America. I love working with the clay and I would love to produce less and create more. So much to explore....
