jACK jOHNSTON Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I read about it in a magazine in 1990.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

George Stewart, Bob McKinley.

What is your specialty?

Teaching polymer clay doll making has become a specialty, I've taught over 29,000 doll making artists around the world. I love to sculpt realistic older people in character settings and vignettes that tell a story.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

Polymer clay is so forgiving. If you make a mistake you can quickly correct the error, or ever turn it to your advantage. I love designing by mistake!

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I'm currently working on two new books. We are currently working on a television series. We anticipate our business showing a gross income of 5 million per year in 5 years.

Practice, Practice, Practice

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

ProSculpt: it is smoother than most clays, it blends without lines, it does not get moonies or cracks, it cures extremely hard.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I have a Bachelor Degree in Commercial Art. I have six children and eight grandchildren. I love to sculpt, market and help other artists grow.
