Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I've been using Polymer Clay for about 3 1/2 years now. I've always been an artist since I was a young girl, but a dear friend of mine ( who has since passed on) used to create beautiful canine sculptures that I admired and asked her the basics of what she used. She told me Polymer clay and the rest is history.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

Yes, Terri Schumsky who is since passed one. She was a very well know Yorkshire Terrier breeder/exhibitor and artist.

What is your specialty?

Canine Real Hair Sculptures. I create all kinds of canine sculptures in the likeness of the persons pet. I specialize in putting the dogs real hair once it's cut down from their show coat, on the polymer clay likeness.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

It's easy to work with and a very forgiving clay.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

No, wish I did.

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

No, would like to though.

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I would hope that somewhere someone would like my work enough to feature it in a gallery or something on that level.

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Just go for it.

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

No.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

Super Sculpey

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

My name is Patrice Ann Cartolano-Marotta, I started drawing pictures since the first grade and won a small contest for drawing a horse. Even before the first grade I am a truly devoted lover of animals. I am an only child of two extremely wonderful parents. I had no formal training in any of the arts that I excel in it just comes naturally. In hight school I remember taking art and my father was called up to school every other day because I just did what I wanted. I wanted to do murals and the teacher was teaching colors. LOL!
