Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?
I started in 1992 when my daughter was born. I watched Milliefiore being done at a craft show and fell in love with the concept.
Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?
Jewel Lewis of Christchurch, New Zealand. Once I made my first trip to the US the list just grew. I don't think I'd have the room here to fit everyone in.
What is your specialty?
I was doing mostly beads but now concentrate on miniatures.
Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?
Its "accesibility" to everyone. Oh, and its versatility.
Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?
I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?
I did place as one of the 12 selected in the "First international juried exhibiton of Polymer Beads" held by the Sherpardess in 1996. From that I got a wonderful article in a New Zealand's women's magazine - pages of my work and a how to. Barbara McGuire used one of my work in her latest book as well.
What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
To get back to being an artist. Currently I operate the only dedicated polymer supply business in the southern Hemisphere so that keeps me busy. Five years from now. hmmm to find every polymer artist I can down under.
Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?
Get a good book, a couple of blocks of clay and play. "Don't be afraid of the clay" is my motto in my classes.
Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft
National guild, New Zealand Polymer clay guild, British Polymer Clay guild and the South Bay Polymer Clay guild.
What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?
Premo for its ease of conditioning, Sculpey III for my children and Fimo art translucent cause I love its final appearance.
Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your
training?Leave Your Interview!
