SANDI REDMAN

Your Company Name:
Email Address/Web Page: sandi_redman@yahoo.com
City & State: Huntsville, AL
Type of Craft: polymer clay

Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I first learned of polymer clay at a local craft store, got some and tried it. Then I got a couple of books and couldn't believe everything that you can do with it. I've been using it for several years, though sporadically. Between work and kids, there isn't enough time. Also, I have to divide my time between polymer clay and rubber stamping. Now I'm learning to combine them!

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

I love my book by Nan Roche. Also love Jewelry Crafts magazine. I love the simulated stones techniques by Tory Hughes. Now that I've found this site, I've enjoyed looking at all the work the members share, as well as the on-line lessons.

What is your specialty?

So far I guess I couldn't say I have a specialty, because I'm still not very good. But I enjoy making jewelry items the best. Recently I took a class and made a bracelet with polymer clay, embossing powders, and stamps. It came out really good.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

Polymer clay is so versatile, it seems like someone is discovering something new every day. I'm always amazed at what people discover.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

No

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

No

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I hope to learn the simulated stone techniques. Five years from now I just hope to have more time to devote to claying!

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Find some good books for inspiration and then just start.

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

only PCC, but I plan to join NPCG. We don't have a local guild in Alabama (that I know of anyway).

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

So far I've only used Sculpey III and Premo.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

My husband, Greg and I are both engineers and we have three kids between us, all boys, one eleven and two fourteen. It gets pretty crazy at our house sometimes!
