Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?
I first discovered polymer clay at the Honey Festival, here in Parkersburg, WV. A lady had a booth set up with all sorts of different items, from jewelry to figures, and I just fell in love!
Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?
I greatly admire Donna Kato, Patricia Rose, Nora Jean Gatine, Jill Willich, and Julianne Sizemore.
What is your specialty?
I work mostly in figures. I've done "real" people, fairies, mermaids, mushroom people, and animals.
Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?
I like that I can give a pat or a squeeze, and change the look if I don't like something. Also, the use of colors is constant fun! Serindipity (happy accidents) is the most fun of all!
Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?
Not at this time.
I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?
I have not won any awards, but then again, I haven't entered any competitions. LOL The looks on people's faces and kind words are reward enough for me!
What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
In five years, I hope to have my own home workshop (don't we all?), and have a small business running.
Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?
My advice, and I can't stress this enough, is Don't Be Afraid!!! Don't think to yourself, "I can't do that". Give it a try! It may not turn out perfect the first time. I know mine sure didn't! But with practice, you will be really happy with your results, and have fun in the process!
Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft
Yes, I am a Moderator of CITY-O-Clay on Yahoo, which is simply the biggest and best polymer clay group out there! Not only do we learn from each other, but we make new friends, have access to lending libraries, and get to experience free online webcam demonstrations!
What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?
I started out using Sculpey III, but found that it didn't hold it's shape very well while being sculpted. I now use Kato Polyclay, because it is firmer, and I don't have to be as concerned about it losing it's shape.
Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?Leave Your Interview!
This is May 2005, and I am a 36 year old wife and mother of three lovely girls. Their ages are 16, 14, and 6. I have worked outside the home for several years, but due to medical problems, I now am a Stay at Home Mom. That suits me just fine, as I'm quite the homebody. LOL
When I'm not claying, or attending to my CITY-O-Clay duties, I love to work outside in the gardens, play with our pets (Sargent Pepper's Lonely Heart-German Shepherd, and Bun Bun-Rabbit), read or reread Harry Potter books, and sew.
I've had no formal training in art. I have taught myself, or learned from the many talented artists which I've found online. There are so many talented people out there, I just couldn't name them all, but I have learned a lot through research.
Please visit my website and don't forget to send me a note while you're there!
Have a wonderful clayday! And God Bless!
