Type of Craft: Polymer clay figures and pins

Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I saw it in my local craft store about three years ago and just thought it looked like fun!

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

love Maureen Carlson. I have one of her videos and just about all of her books! Cecelia Determan, Janet Farris and of course all of the wonderful artists who do canework.(I can't!!)

What is your specialty?

I love to make angels! Moveable angels, angel figures, angel pins!! I love to do "country" style things, animals, pins of all sorts & christmas ornaments including personalized things!! It's hard for me to describe the way I feel about this medium..It will be a lifelong love affair!!

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

Polymer clay allows me to bring my imagination to life, not to mention it's a great stress release!!

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

I don't have anything going ..yet! I am planning to submit a design or two to a few craft magazines this summer hopefully! I guess that's a start!

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

No I haven't..I can only dream!!

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

In five years I hope to be known for my angels (among other designs) in areas other than my town!! Maybe have a few designs published and have a homebased business in full swing!

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Just get some clay and try it out! It takes a little practice at turning those thoughts into something permanent, but keep trying. The more you create, the better you get!

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

No, there are none in my immediate area but I just heard that one may be starting in Portland, Or.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

I prefer Fimo. I like its strength and thick color. Sculpey is nice for its softness and pliability but its not as strong as Fimo.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I am a mother of two great kids..a boy 5 and a girl 2. I have a great husband who attends all my craft shows and helps me out  and he builds all my displays! He gives me his honest opinion when he thinks a design could be better and he doesn't mind eating around all my containers stacked on the kitchen table! I don't have any special training, but thanks to this clay and all the great response from my craft shows I have a much higher self esteem! If there's one thing about this clay..It's the smile you get when someone compliments your work and appreciates the time you took to do what you do!
