Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I am a pastry chef and used to work in suger clay. I was hit by a drunk driver 2 years ago and was house bound for several months. Both of my hands were broken and my grandfather had used some type of clay for therapy when he broke his hand. Once I was able to walk again, I had nothing to do. I couldn't stand long enough to bake and wanted to do something. I had my husband go to the store and buy me a sample box of clay so I could practice my sugar art. I found out I had a natural knack for it and have been doing it everyday since then.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

I think the most important thing I ever did was type a search into yahoo that brought up this site. I have gotten so many ideas and learned so much.

What is your specialty?

I am pretty good at making my figures look like the people I am trying to make. I take pictures of people's loved ones and make little characatures of them. I made a million Santa ornaments this year so now am an expert on Saint Nick!

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

I am not happy unless I am working with my hands. The clay lets me do whatever I want. I am working on more serious pieces since everything I usually make is what I call "Happy Bunny Fluffy Puppy".

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

I am thinking about getting one together. I have always been good at detailing lessons so people can understand them. I have come a long way and think I can help others.

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

I have made a few lesson plans for Michaels, but that's it.

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I hope to be selling my pieces in my own shop. I already sell my stuff in a few shops so I am heading that way.

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Go to all the sites and read all the books you can. Even if it is stuff you have read before, you will still learn something or understand it better.

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

I am still looking for crafters is San Antonio.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

I like all the sculpey products. They are easy for me to use and are affordable. My hands still hurt all the time from the accident, so something soft enough for me to sculpt is ideal.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I am a newly married baker and polymer clay fanatic. I have been with my husband 5 years and have been married 2 months. I love to do sugar art and polymer clay lets me do all the things (and more) that I can do in sugar without burning myself or sweating too much. I have ALWAYS loved crafts of any sort and am so happy that I can mix all my hobbies with one perfect medium. I have just started up my paper casting again and guess what! I am using my polymer clay molds for my paper casting. yay!
