Type of Craft:

Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

Began in Fall of '97. I was hired to do 'prototypes' of Santas for a line of figurines.

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

What is your specialty?

Playing and exploring. I am OK at caning and seem to be attracted to anything having to do with worms. I developed the Gorkley line.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

The possibilities are endless. Just when i think I am beginning to get the hang of it, something new comes along and opens up a whole new world of creativity to explore.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

No

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

No

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I hope to be selling my clay mainly, if not exclucively, in galleries. I also hope to publish some of my books (some of which are not polyclay-related).

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Get a good book with a few instructions and lots of examples, then play, play, play!

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

I am a founding member of the Blue Ridge Polymer Clay Guild. Also the National Polymer Clay Guild.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

I prefer Premo. I like the texture and reliability.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I am happily married (most of the time) and live with several critters. I write Byrd's Words on Delphi.
