Tell us in your own words, how you discovered polymer clay and how long have you been using it?

I discovered polymer clay in August of 1998,5 years ago. I bought 2 of the Sculpey 3 variety packs for my children. It looked like a fun medium and I had seen lots of craftin ideas on The Carol Duvall show. After a weekedn of playing with the clay and exploring a few of the How-to books I had bought... the kids lost interest in the clay, but I was forever hooked !

Are there any special artists that you can attribute your interest to or that have inspired you?

I have to say that I think Donna Kato orginally inspired me to try polymer clay because she made it look so very easy. And now I find myself inspired by those that are newcomers to the art form. Their excitement and desire to learn keeps me always wanting to learn my and try new things myself.

What is your specialty?

I guess my specialty is dragons. I started out making cute little figures, then branched into faeries and elves. One day I tried my hand at covering eggs ... and while on my 4th one I stuck my thumb through the shell on accident.... my first baby dragon hatched from that mishap. Dragn are what I enjoy the most and I feel I am the best at.

Can you tell us why you find polymer clay the expressive medium for you?

I have always wanted be an artistic person. I have been called crafty for years.... but there is a difference between the two. I love art, but can only draw stick figures. With Polymer clay, I am an artist because it allows my creativity to flow without end. My imagination is all that can hold me back.

Have you published any polymer clay books or do you have any in the works?

No I haven't yet, but I would like to one day.

I know it is very difficult to express, but have you won any awards for your polymer clay work?

I have given several Polymer clay demonstrations at my local craft stores.... but no... no awards or TV appearances.

What are your expectations for the future? Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?

I hope very much to continue to learn and grow with this medium and to possibly be able to bring the joy of polymer clay to local children by hosting classes.

Do you have any advice for the beginning polymer clay enthusiasts?

Ask questions... LOTS OF THEM ! And don't be afraid of the clay, there are no mistakes... only happy accidents.

Are you a member of any Polymer Clay group,or any other craft organization?

I am a member and the list mom to the Yahoo Group, New to Polymer Clay.

What brands of polymer clay do you prefer and why?

I personally prefer Premo for it's strength and color range. And Kato clay for it's ability to capture all the best qualities of the other clays in one product.

Last and most important can you tell us all about you? Your family, your training?

I am 36 years old, and am most happily married to my soulmate John. We currently make our home on the gulf coast of FL, having moved here a year ago from southwest Michigan. I am a mother of 4, my children are 16, 11, 9 and 3 1/2. I have been blessed to have been able to be a stay at home mom to all of my kids. I have dabbled in MANY different types of crafts over the years. But polymer clay has pretty much taken the forefront of my creativity. I also design custom web graphics and home pages for crafters when I am not playing with my clay :)
