Background Information
Years Teaching: 6
Years Teaching Clay: 6
Years Working w/Clay: 9
School or Studio: Georgina Art Centre and Gallery and I do elective classes at many of our local schools.
Freelance: Yes
Specialties: Creating projects that children want to make themselves such as animal figures, dragons, etc. I also love to do home decor items.
First Experience With Clay: Picked up a magazine featuring gum paste roses and figured that I could do them with polymer clay.
Past Teaching Experiences: Going into the schools to teach polymer clay for 'electives' is a favourite of mine. I feel that I am filling a need for the students who are just not interested in skiing or skating and may end up left out of an activity. Seeing their faces light up at the end of the day is priceless.
Publication Experience: I've had a switch plate on the cover of Craft & Home Projects magazine and quite a few projects on the Sculpey site. Apparently I will have a Halloween project in a magazine this year too.

Class Listings & Descriptions: I teach children, ages 6 and up primarily, although I have given a few adult classes. I love to work with the children because they are always willing to try new things. They never have a negative attitude when they approach a lesson. Plus, they are always thrilled with their results and I think that this is a great 'ego' booster. We do everthing from bugs, turtles, frogs, cartoon characters, seasonal items and special occasion gifts. We also offer 'clay birthday parties' for minimum of 10 children.
Words of Encouragement to Novice Teachers:
"Start small, perhaps with a few relatives or friends to boost your confidence. I was lucky that I had a wonderful friend who owns Roselm Studio. Her name is Georgia and she is a super 'cartoonist.' She was the one who pushed me to get started, offering her own studio and clientele. We have a lot of fun teaching children everything from cartooning, plaster crafts and clay."
